Louise McGettrick
Writer, Artist, Original Creator of Fugglers. Professionally whimsical.
Hello there!
I'm Louise, although you might know me better as Mrs McGettrick. I'm a children's author, artist, and the original creator of Fugglers.
Fugglers began as an Etsy store in 2010. As origin stories go, it was a humble one - a battery operated sewing machine, a ziplock bag of false teeth bought on eBay, and a spare bedroom lost beneath a layer of felt. In a lifetime of impulsive decisions, starting that store remains my favourite. Fugglers soon found internet fame (infamy?) and took on a life of their own; spawning memes, cropping up in newspaper articles, even being discussed on Fox news and Loose Women in the UK.
After many joyous years of making Fugglers, I came to the realisation that my creations had outgrown me. Going viral is the business dream, but when you are a one-woman enterprise it can feel like being given a Ferrari to drive around a maze.
In 2018 I sold the business to Spin Master.
Fast forward to today, and Fugglers have shown no sign of slowing down. They are now available in stores in multiple countries across the world, and have even forged alliances with legends like Spongebob Squarepants and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
So, if you're here in pursuit of Fugglers, I'm afraid this cupboard is bare! Like any proud parent, I have plenty of photos to share with you, but my hand-made creations left home a long time ago. The new generation of Fugglers are the responsibility of Addo Play.
The original Etsy shop is still around, but it’s now a McGettrick family art shop and a playground for our artistic experiments. Feel free to visit us at https://cathairandteeth.etsy.com
